What does our pledge mean?

"A true Kiwanian strives for Purity, Justice and Valor in thought and deed in all aspects of life at all times."

The Kiwanis Pledge centers around the American Flag.  Though the colors did not originally have specific meaning they have come to represent purity, justice and valor as these are three of the virtues that true Americans, and true Kiwanians, hold in the highest esteem.

Purity - the absence, or degree of absence, of anything harmful, inferior or unwanted

Justice - fairness or reasonableness, especially in the way people are treated and decisions are made

Valor – courage, commitment… the ability to face danger, difficulty, uncertainty, or pain without being overcome by fear or being deflected from a chosen course of action

A true Kiwanian...

approaches all he or she does with honor and by always giving his or her all and would never considering making an inferior, half hearted attempt.

is always truthful, fair, reasonable and honorable in both thought and deed.

faces life and all its challenges with a sense of courage and commitment  never allowing him or her self to be deflected from a reasonable, honorable course of action.
